Bubble tea is a Taiwanese drink that has reached whole new heights on the popularity scale. If you’ve never tried bubble tea before, the milk drinks are deliciously creamy beverages typically made from tea, milk and sugar, whilst the fruit flavours are more like a traditional iced tea. Various types of pearls, jellies and puddings can also be added for a little something extra.
With flavours ranging from banana to watermelon to vanilla to kiwi, there is a taste to suit everyone! Not to mention all of the options for toppings. But… how do you choose from so many flavours? Bubblebase have got you covered as we’re here to take you through the most popular bubble tea flavours and toppings that are not only classics but absolutely delicious too!
The 5 most popular bubble tea flavours are:
- Classic Milk Tea
- Tiger Milk Tea
- Thai Milk Tea
- Taro Milk Tea
- Lychee Fruit Tea
1.Classic Milk Tea
The flavour that started it all. The classic milk tea is made with black tea, milk powder, sugar, and of course, chewy tapioca pearls. Its rich and creamy flavour combined with its smooth tea flavour is sure to put a smile on your face.
If you’re yet to try bubble tea, this is a fantastic place to start.
2. Tiger Milk Tea
Tiger milk tea, also known as brown sugar milk tea, is our current drink of the month… and for good reason. This flavour is incredibly popular due to it’s sweet caramel taste, silky texture, and aesthetically pleasing colours.
Ps. If you’re wondering where this drink gets its name from, it’s because of the stripes and colours which are formed on the cup when the drink is served.
3. Thai Milk Tea
If you’ve had Thai tea before, you know how delicious it really is. This drink is immediately recognisable by its orange colour, and it tastes just as good as it looks. Thai milk tea is exceedingly sweet, so for those with an active sweet tooth, this is the perfect choice.
4. Taro Milk Tea
Taro milk tea is an eye-catching purple drink made from a slightly sweet Asian root called Taro. This drink has a slightly nutty, earthy, vanilla-esque flavour, with many people claiming it tastes just like cookies and cream. Sounds good right?
5. Lychee Fruit Tea
If you’re looking for more of a refreshing fruity tea, you can't go wrong with lychee tea. This beverage is seriously delicious, and an absolute favourite on a hot day. Lychee is nice and light, which makes it less sweet and more refreshing.
Popular Toppings
The toppings for bubble tea are add-ons that you find at the bottom of the drinks. Here are our most popular:
Tapioca Pearls
Tapioca pearls are the original bubble tea topping and without a doubt the most popular! Tapioca are made of starch extracted from the cassava root and are then cooked with some brown sugar to give them their dark colour. They have a characteristic caramel taste and a consistency similar to gummy bears.
Popping Bubbles
Popping bubbles are juicy, fun and a really great place to start your bubble tea adventure. They are made of an agar shell filled with different flavoured fruit juice and you can pick for a wide variety of flavours to perfectly compliment your drink.
Our current flavours are: strawberry, passion fruit, mango, lychee and we have special guest flavours that change regularly!
Jellies
All of our jellies are either made of agar or coconut pieces so they are all vegan friendly. We know that not everyone is going to want tapioca all the time, so why not mix it up with something a bit more fruity? The jellies have a bit of a bite to them so they are a great swap for tapioca.
Our current flavours are: lychee, apple, tutti fruity, strawberry and grass jelly. Grass jelly is slightly different to the others since it’s much softer and has more of a subtle, herbal taste.
At Bubblebase, the majority of our drinks and toppings are vegan friendly and gluten free. All of our fruity teas and the majority of the bubble tea toppings are vegan friendly and our milky flavours are suitable for vegetarians.
